It’s time to go back to something simple
I was watching the documentary about Adele last night and it finished with them speculating on her next album. Someone said “it’s time to go back to something simple. To pare it back,” and this struck a chord with me (pun intended).
When we go through the trauma of a relationship breakdown, most people find that the things that become important in our times of despair are the simple things. Support of your family, your tribe of friends, simple pleasures and quiet times of introspection. There comes the day when you’re ready to party and to get back out into the world, but it’s important to take the time to heal at your own pace.
Adele’s lyrics are full of despair, retrospection, anger and forgiveness. Her journey is out there for all to see, listen to and learn from. It’s up to you how much of your own story you want to share, but make sure you pick your audience. You will automatically find the right people who allow you to dump and vent without judgement.
So next time you’re about to blurt out your story to the butcher, the baker and the sweet lady at the bus stop, stop and remind yourself to wait for your chosen audience. There’s no need to broadcast to the world. Pare it back. Be the unplugged version of yourself until it’s time to get out on your comeback tour.
